Hans B. Amell
Founding Partner
Chairman, CEO

Mr. Amell began his career with McKinsey & Co. (Scandinavia) in 1978. He has spent over two decades providing clients with management and operational advice. Mr. Amell has frequently been called upon to execute change in Fortune 500 and Global 1000 companies from C-level or Board positions including as a corporate officer and Senior Vice President of Marketing for Allied Signal, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Unisys, Chief Operating Officer of Rosenbluth International, Managing Director of The Conference Board, President and General Manager of Ericsson Workstations (Sweden), Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of Ericsson (Denmark), Senior Vice President of Cognizant Corporation, as a Corporate Officer and Senior Vice President of Dun and Bradstreet and Chairman, President and CEO of Dun and Bradstreet's Software Units.

Mr. Amell's career as a change agent has focused on the converging technologies of hardware, software, telecommunications and business services. Mr. Amell holds a BA/MBA equivalent in Marketing and Organizational Behavior from the University of Stockholm and Uppsala. Mr. Amell also attended the Post-Graduate ISMP Executive MBA Program sponsored by McKinsey at the Harvard Business School and holds post graduate credentials in Marketing.

Mr. Amell is a seasoned skier and blue-water sailor.

 
Martin Wade III

Mr. Wade is Chief Executive Officer of IMSI, Inc. He also served from 1998 to 2000 in Mergers and Acquisitions at Prudential Securities and from 1996 to 1998 as a managing director in Mergers and Acquisitions at Salomon Brothers. From 1991 to 1996, Mr. Wade was National Head of Investment banking at Price Waterhouse, LLC. Mr. Wade also spent six years in the Mergers and Acquisitions department at Bankers Trust and eight years at Lehman Brothers Kuhn Loeb. Mr. Wade is credited with participating in over 200 Mergers and Acquisitions transactions involving a variety of Fortune 500 clients.

Mr. Wade was a partner in M/A Group at both Lehman and Solomon Brothers where he completed over twenty software company acquisitions and sales. From 2000 to 2006 , Mr. Wade served as Chairman and CEO of a public software development company where he was responsible for acquiring or establishing the commercial development of many leading software products. Mr. Wade has also consulted with other companies such as Alliance One in the development of proprietary inside software into succesful outside products.

Mr. Wade is a member of the Board of Directors of NexMed (OTC: NEXM), Command Security Corporation (OTC: CMMD) and Energy Transfer Group of Dallas, Texas.

 
 
David Clay
Senior Vice President, Public Affairs
 

Mr. Clay has over twenty years experience in public affairs including government relations and strategic communications, developing and implementing communications programs designed to yield specific results - whether to the bottom line, marketing goals, market share, or public perception.

Mr Clay has held senior management positions at New York-based Cadence Communications and Washington-based Hyde Park Communications and CSI Public Affairs where he worked as a registered lobbyist. In this capacity, he has represented the private equity firm Celtic Therapeutics Management, LLLP (where he served as interim Chief of Staff); the New York Academy of Sciences (launching their presence in the Middle East Gulf States); the Science and Technology in Society Forum; the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Higher Education and Research; Launch.org; ModelsHotel.com (serving as Chief Marketing Officer), the American Medical Association; NTT/DoCoMo; Axon Healthcare Partners; Althia Capital; WIRED and Condè Nast.

Previously, he served as Chief of Staff to the Chief Scientific Officer at Pfizer Inc, the world's largest biopharmaceutical company, and was responsible for science and medical relations and communications, science advocacy and medical, scientific and academic partnerships. His network outreach activities directly supported Pfizer’s external business development and research and development partnerships which included up to 40% of Pfizer’s research and development pipeline.

Mr. Clay serves on the Board of Advisors to the Afghanistan Education and Peace Foundation and is an advisor to the Kibbee Foundation for Children.

 
 
Garrett L. Cecchini
Partner in Residence
 

Garrett is a legal and consulting professional with 28 years of experience in corporate turnarounds, restructurings and corporate finance on a national and international level. Garrett has also been qualified as an "expert" in multiple federal trials on bankruptcy, insolvency matters and forensic accounting matters related to insolvency.

Garrett has taught and lectured on Bankruptcy as a guest "expert" at Stanford University Law School and as an adjunct professor at Golden Gate University Law School and co-authored a two volume legal treatise on Bankruptcy and Restructuring for Corporate Counsel. His experience came to the attention of the U.S State Department in 1997 when he was asked to consult to USAID and head a delegation of U.S. Bankruptcy judges to go to Romania to re-write that country's bankruptcy code.

Garrett has a Bachelor of Arts from Duquesne University , a Masters in Developmental Economics from the University of Pittsburgh , a Master of Business Administration from Golden Gate University , and a Juris Doctor from the University of San Francisco.

 
 
Einar Bolstad
Partner in Residence
 

Mr. Bolstad has a wide range of management experience ranging from positions in telecom, food and banking industries throughout Europe. He has also worked several years as an independent consultant.

Prior to joining Catalyst, Mr. Bolstad served as Executive Vice President with Xantic in the Netherlands where he was responsible for land based satellite and broadcasting activities. Prior to his work at Xantic, Mr. Bolstad was Country Manager for Telenor Austria, overseeing the Telenor Group’s mobile, internet and satellite investments in the country. Mr Bolstad has also served as Deputy Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer for Telenor Satellite Services in Norway, one of the world’s largest providers of satellite maritime services and a major satellite broadcaster in Scandinavia. He has also served as a Chairman of the Board for numerous Telenor subsidiaries throughout Central and Eastern Europe. Mr. Bolstad was a Financial Controller in the Kraft General Foods Group and an analyst with Midland Montagu and Chase Manhattan Bank.

Mr. Bolstad holds a Master of the Arts in Business and Economics as well as an Engineering degree. Mr. Bolstad also studied at the Norwegian Air Officer Training School.

 
 
Shaen Bernhardt-

Mr. Bernhardt von Bernhardi began his professional career in the Enterprise Risk Services arm of Deloitte & Touche where he was responsible for identifying and mitigating operational risks for a variety of Global 1000 clients. Following his tenure at Deloitte he served as a Director of Business Development for PostX Corporation, and as a consultant for Merrill Corporation where he was responsible for developing and implementing early strategy and marketing efforts for the launch of Merrill's flagship product, DataSite, an electronic deal room for Mergers and Acquisitions due diligence.

Mr. Bernhardt von Bernhardi holds a Bachelor of the Arts in International Relations from Boston University, a Juris Doctor from the Georgetown University Law Center and a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Entrepreneurship from the University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business where he was also the recipient of the Eli Lilly Scholarship for Academic and Professional Merit. In addition, Mr. Bernhardt von Bernhardi studied International Finance at the Universität St. Gallen in St. Gallen, Switzerland and International Law at the Università degli Studi di Firenze in Florence, Italy.

Mr. Bernhardt von Bernhardi is an avid pilot, an experienced, ocean passage sailor, and a lifelong skier and hunter.

 
 
John C. Oldfield
Vice President
Business Development
 

Prior to the Catalyst Acquisition Group, Mr. Oldfield was an executive at The Conference Board, a New York-based economic research firm which produces the famous Leading Economic Indicators and Consumer Confidence Index (CCI).  While there he researched best, worst and breakthrough IT and e-business practices, corporate training, business-to-business electronic commerce and ERP systems.  He also launched and managed two innovative online services, including a corporate e-learning business. Prior to The Conference Board, Mr. Oldfield was with the National Academy of Sciences, where he researched science, technology and economic policy issues.  These included the semiconductor industry (pre-competitive industry consortia), biotechnology, and publicly-funded venture capital (Small Business Innovation Research Program).

He also has extensive international management experience with USAID and the Department of State, including training programs for election officials and foreign media, as well as civil/military communication projects in post-conflict countries.

Mr. Oldfield is fluent in French and Italian and holds a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University.

 
 
Jack H. Schwartz
Chief Technology Officer
 

Mr. Schwartz has more than 30 years of experience as a hands-on enterprise software technologist executive and product team builder, researching, envisioning, innovating, planning, designing, implementing, managing, teaching and evaluating software/hardware systems tools, applications, and SDLC methodologies and architectures.

Mr. Schwartz has served four times as Chief Technology Officer in small to medium sized enterprise web and mobile software product startups where he has led many teams and organizations to successful product delivery, revenue, market differentiation and funding.

Mr. Schwartz is an accomplished expert in the area of software systems architecture and engineering methodology, is a published technical author and teacher, and has served as an invited speaker at numerous technology forums.

Mr. Schwartz holds a Masters Degree from Brooklyn College and a B.A. from the University of Delaware with a strong academic background in theoretical and experimental cognitive science, and sensory perception, and a strong interest in applied physiological psychology in the area sensory prosthesis.

 
 
John Fletcher

Mr. Fletcher is the founder and CEO of Fletcher Spaght, Inc., a consulting firm providing strategy and financing assistance to new ventures, and Founding Partner of Fletcher Spaght Ventures, L.P., a venture capital fund investing in emerging growth high technology and healthcare companies. Fletcher Spaght, Inc. provides strategy and financing assistance to new ventures, including start-up companies, risk capital investors and emerging technologies/growth enterprises within larger organizations. Fletcher Spaght Ventures, L.P., invests in emerging growth high technology and healthcare companies. Prior to launching FSI in 1983, Mr. Fletcher was a Senior Manager at The Boston Consulting Group.

Mr. Fletcher has also served as a board member for Axcelis, AutoImmune, GlycoFi, NMT Medical, Quick Study Radiology, Spectranetics, Panacos Pharmaceuticals and 4DataLink. He serves on the Board of Overseers and Cardiology Council of Children's Hospital of Boston, the Board of Advisors of the Boston University Photonics Center, the Whitehead Institute at MIT, the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College, and the School of Government and Business at George Washington University.

Mr. Fletcher holds an Master of the Arts in Finance from the Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania where he also served as an instructor. Prior to Wharton, Mr. Fletcher was a Captain and fighter pilot in the U.S. Air Force. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from Southern Illinois University, and a Bachelor of the Arts from George Washington University.

 
 
Pearson Spaght

Mr. Spaght is President of Fletcher Spaght, Inc. and a Founding Partner of Fletcher Spaght Ventures, L.P. Mr. Spaght leads the Corporate Growth practice of Fletcher Spaght, Inc.

Prior to joining FSI in 1986, Mr. Spaght was Vice President of Corporate Strategy and International Operations for Raymark Corporation, a worldwide manufacturer of friction materials. Previously, he acted as Senior Manager at The Boston Consulting Group.

Mr. Spaght is a member of the Board of Directors of five venture-backed companies, iSuppli, SoundID, Silicon Dimensions, Plasma Quench Technologies and Idaho Titanium Technologies and is actively involved as an Observer at Cadent and TeraBurst. He is also on the Board of Advisors of the Boston University Photonics Center.

Mr. Spaght holds a Master of Business Administration, a Master of Science of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and a Bachelor of the Arts in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University.

 
 
Atle Fjeld

Mr. Fjeld has served as Senior Vice President of Engineering and Chief Information Officer for TheSupply, and prior to that as Vice President Information Technology and CIO for Siebel Systems. Before joining Siebel Systems, Mr. Fjeld had a successful 21-year career at Unisys Corporation. where his last position was Vice President of Order and Quotes Management.

Mr. Fjeld holds a Bachelor of Sciences in Computer Science from the University of Oslo, in Oslo, Norway.

 
 
Lawrence D. Poster
Executive in Residence
 

Mr. Poster has significant, diverse experience as a Strategy Consultant and in Executive Search. His principal work has been with Catalyx Group which starts up innovative new companies and spins-out product lines and divisions of operating companies; identifies sources of capital for venture-stage and emerging growth companies; and provides strategic business advice for clients, and for which he is Founder and Managing Director and DHR International, the 5th largest Executive Search Firm in the U.S., where he is Executive Vice President in the firm’s New York Office.

With both DHR and Catalyx Group, Lawrence focuses on Healthcare, Advanced Materials, Cleantech and Renewable Energy. Clients have included NASDAQ, NYSE-listed and numerous Private Equity and Venture Capital-sponsored companies.

Prior experience was as head of the Marketing department for the New York Bank for savings (now part of J. P. Morgan Chase). Earlier, he served as Manager in Arthur Young and Company’s technology consulting practice in Washington D.C. and as an economist with the Federal Government.

Mr. Poster is a graduate of MIT and is formerly a Member of the Board of Directors of the MIT Enterprise forum of New York. He has been a frequent judge at the NJ Venture Fair and is a long-time Member of the century-old Amateur Comedy Club in New York, the nation’s oldest continuously performing theatrical club.
